Suitable for
Although there are no mandatory pre-requisites for course delegates, the PMP certification mandates the following prior to sitting the exam and this influences the profile of course attendees:
  • Bachelors Degree, 4500hrs+ project management experience, 35 hours of formal project management training (satisfied by this course) or
  • High-school Diploma, 7500hrs+ project management experience, 35 hours of formal project management training (satisfied by this course)

Summary
This 5 day certification course takes participants through the phases of a project, using the Process Groups and integrative framework adapted by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). It is suitable for anyone who requires a detailed working knowledge of the PMI’s approach to project management, particularly those working towards the Project Management Professional (PMP®). The PMP designation following your name signifies to clients, employers etc that you have demonstrated a solid foundation of knowledge and experience from which you can competently practice project management.

Content
This highly interactive and participative course covers the following areas:

Each of these sessions addresses a particular topic and has the following format.

Firstly, the topic is introduced in a generic sense with an explanation of its importance within project management and how the topic is generally approached.

Secondly, the session addresses how the PMI approach the topic and break it down into the precise elements. This assists delegates in sharing the same perspective as the examiner and this understanding is reinforced with simulated exam questions specific to the topic.

Thirdly, any peculiar or apparently counter-intuitive aspects of the PMI’s approach are highlighted.

Fourthly, each session includes a ‘Pardon the Jargon’ session to expose delegates to any appropriate jargon, ‘Americanisms’, ‘Buzz-words’ etc that can cause so much confusion to exam candidates.

These topic sessions are supplemented by these other three sessions.
  • A course introduction explaining the structure and methods used
  • A full mock PMP exam of 200 questions and referenced answers
  • A concluding ‘Wash-up’ session allowing delegates to review any remaining concerns

Objectives
By the end of the course, delegates will:
  • Have established how all project activities are interrelated within the PMI model
  • Know when and how to use the defined Tools and Techniques on projects
  • Understand specific PMI definitions, acronyms and terminology
  • Feel comfortable with the examination format and typical question styles
  • Have gained essentials skills necessary to work as a project managers or project team members
  • Have developed their interpersonal and general project management skills
  • Have satisfied the 35 hour formal project management training requirement for PMP candidates

Exam Structure
Subject to satisfactory PMI validation of the stated pre-requisites, delegates will arrange directly with the PMI to sit the closed-book 4 hours, 200 multiple choice PMP examination at an accredited test centre on a convenient future date.
